Life Going On: VICTOR MILÁN As a kid I got hooked on the notion that it had to be possible to write thrilling action-adventure stories I didn’t have to turn off my brain to enjoy. That was the only kind I wanted to read, or see on the screen – and there was never enough (there still isn't!) That’s what I’ve devoted my whole life to doing: writing novels and stories aimed at exciting, rather than insulting, intelligent readers. That’s almost exclusively how I’ve made my living for over thirty years. I’ve also been a cowboy, semi-pro actor, artist, bouncer, computer tech, and Albuquerque’s most popular all-night progressive rock DJ. But writing’s my first love. I just delivered my 90th novel and have written numerous short stories. Pseudonymously I’ve written dozens of novels for adventure series, including The Guardians, Deathlands, and Outlanders. Under my own name I’ve authored SF and fantasy novels, including the award-winning The Cybernetic Samurai and its sequel, The Cybernetic Shogun. I’ve done historical novels, westerns, Star Trek™ and D&D™ novels, the Black Dragon trilogy for BattleTech™, and the technothriller Red Sands (What? No trademark?) I’m a charter member of the Wild Cards mafia, creators of the popular shared-world anthologies and novels which are about to come roaring back with a new trilogy; I’m in process of rewriting the novella I sold to the second volume, Busted Flush. Away from the keyboard, I’ve served as Master of Ceremonies for St. Louis science-fiction convention Archon’s world-class Masquerade for over twenty years; I recently had the privilege and pleasure of serving as MC for the 2007 North American Science Fiction Convention (also Archon 31) in St. Louis. I’m also perennial MC for Bubonicon’s smaller, but still excellent, costume contest. Also I enjoy taijiquan, birding, ferrets, guns, and walking or riding my recumbent tadpole tricycle through Albuquerque’s scenic North Valley. I’m trying to overcome a lifelong black thumb and learn gardening. And, of course, I spend many hours indulging my lifelong passion for reading. I’m about to start the first of six new books for Gold Eagle’s contemporary adventure-fantasy series, Rogue Angel; my most recent, The Lost Scrolls, came out in May, 2007; my next, Secret of the Slaves, is due out in September, 2007. MechWarrior Dark Age #26: A Rending of Falcons, a sequel to my MWDA #10: Flight of the Falcon, was published in June, 2007. Most exciting to me: I’m at last about to finish my epic high-fantasy novel, The Dinosaur Lords. Come by my reading of excerpts. Five words: I make toy dinosaurs fight! My website, www.VictorMilan.com, offers free fiction for your delectation and a hopping Forum. If you want to learn more about my day-to-day doings (and you know you do) please fall by my Sense of Adventure blog. If you run into me at a con, please step up and say hi.
